Welcome to Mallorca

Mallorca forms the largest of the Balearic Islands and is often referred to as the gateway to the Mediterranean.

The Island has always been popular for its diverse scenery and multi-cultural society and never more so than now.

With its excellent year round climate and spectacular scenery Mallorca is truly cosmopolitan which is reflected in the many restaurants who promote cuisine from far flung countries around the globe.

Recent years has seen a steady increase in the development of recreational facilities; the island is becoming renowned for its outstanding golf courses, more activity, sports and leisure centres are being built, riding has become extremely popular and the great thing is, all these facilities are available to everyone.

Continuous investment means the quality and standard of life here are excellent.   The vast ongoing road improvements and rail development with more plans ahead to further extend the network leave little of the Island inaccessible which in itself has increased opportunities tenfold.

Growth within the business sector has been phenomenal with the island seeing dramatic changes into the type of businesses now operating which has fuelled a steady influx of quality investment.

For example the wellness sector with an increase in spas and clubs, single and unisex beauty facilities has been a prime growth area.

Generally speaking, even the smallest businesses are thriving; the relentless grip the marine industry has in the Balearics goes from strength to strength and is a respected world class player in services provided in the nautical sector and to yacht and superyacht owners with high purchasing power.

Rural tourism is growing, with fincas and small hotels providing exceptional quality and standards.

Of course there will always be a place for traditional tourism which has also seen an upturn; millions of euros are being invested by the government to ensure that it remains part of Mallorcan life. Aims are to improve traditional tourism standards, along with developing the winter season and to encourage the Island as a weekend destination.

Mallorca has something to satisfy most, from breathtaking fiestas and fireworks to the fascinating history of Palma.

Celebrate San Sebastian wandering the streets and squares of old Palma where giant barbeques glow ready to cook your picnic.

The languages spoken are Castilian and Catalan (which is the local dialect); you should have little problems with the language as many people and organisations do speak some English. However, learning even some basic Spanish will stand you in good stead and many a good relationship has been borne by practising a new language often with hilarious results.

Schooling is excellent, whether you choose to send your children to a local school or to one of the international schools you will not be disappointed by the standard of education.
